Psychotherapy & Psychoanalysis
in Beverly Hills & all California
Welcome. I’m Dr. Sandra Cohen, a licensed psychologist in the state of California with a long-standing practice in Beverly Hills. I am back in my office, seeing vaccinated patients, with COVID protocol in place. I am also continuing to see patients on Zoom for teletherapy across all of California and I have openings in my practice if you’re looking for psychotherapy now.
But, before we get there, let’s see if I’m a good fit for you.
Ask Yourself What You’re Seeking Psychological Help For…
Patients typically begin working with me at a time in their lives when their anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, effects of childhood trauma, or confusion about a transition has reached a peak and they cannot manage the intensity of their feelings alone.

I have worked as a therapist for over 35 years helping people deal with the ongoing effects of childhood trauma and other psychological struggles. I understand the stressful nature of a southern California lifestyle and the many demands of living a busy creative life.
So, quite frequently, my psychological support is sought out when someone reaches a critical point in their lives. Have these years of COVID brought you to a crossroads? Is this a time to make new decisions, but you aren’t at all sure which way to turn? Therapy can help.
As a trained psychologist and certified psychoanalyst in Beverly Hills, I am able to help patients find a path ahead that resolves their anxiety and stress. We look to the past to understand why the present is so painful. From there, solutions to move on with your life are easier to find.
How Does Psychotherapy Work?
Psychotherapy in Dr. Sandra Cohen’s practice involves meeting weekly. It’s not uncommon to meet more than once a week for deeper work. We’ll decide together what frequency of sessions is best for you. During therapy, we’ll work to understand the roots of your anxiety and find ways to activate your inner resources to become free of it. The #1 rule? Be patient with the process.
Psychotherapy provides lasting change but isn’t a quick fix. You and I will determine the length of time you need as we go along. It all depends on how challenging your situation is for you.
What Should You Expect From Our Sessions?
Each psychotherapy session is 50 minutes. There is no need to prepare. In fact, it’s best for us to explore whatever comes into your mind. I always work actively with you to understand your feelings of anxiety, sadness, or depression, and to help you create the life you desire.
Recently, the COVID pandemic has evoked many emotional experiences, including past unresolved traumas and feelings of grief, depression about a job loss, financial fears, and deep feelings of uncertainty about the future. If these challenges are keeping you up at night, therapy is a great place to begin to gain some relief from these worries and get back to living your life.
What Are My Areas Of Psychological Expertise?
Over the years, Dr. Sandra Cohen has developed many areas of expertise. I am trained in healing trauma and PTSD and all of the emotional entanglements that come from a traumatic childhood or past. But there is much more to my practice.
Here’s a shortlist of areas I can help you with:
Childhood Trauma
Sexual Abuse
Borderline Personality Disorder
Panic Attacks
Anxiety
Persistent Depression
Obsessional Worry
Eating Disorders
Creative Blocks
Relationship Fears
Intimacy Problems
Is This A Good Time In Your Life For Counseling?
My answer to this question falls into 3 buckets:
One:
When you’re aware that your psychological struggles, depression, or anxiety are too much to handle on your own, that’s a sign it’s time for therapy.
Two:
If you have an hour (or more) a week and want to change your life, that’s a sign it’s time for therapy.
Three:
When you feel called to live a healthier life, that’s a sign it’s time for therapy.
Knowing it’s the right time to get help doesn’t require saying yes to more than one item on this list. Yet, many people think about psychotherapy for much too long before reaching out; wasting months, even years, feeling sad, depressed, anxious, isolated, and alone. That’s not necessary.
If you’ve thought about therapy but haven’t taken the step, how about doing it now?
Sometimes it feels hard to ask for help, yet if you want a better life, you can do something about it. I am here to help you change the ways you feel dissatisfied and stuck. All you have to do is ask.
Is It Time to Get Started With My Psychotherapy Services?
My practice is located in Beverly Hills, California. But I can offer you individual psychotherapy or psychoanalysis either in-person in my office or across all of California in a teletherapy format via HIPAA-compliant Zoom. All sessions are confidential.
If you can’t meet with me in person, visit this page to learn more about your teletherapy option. From San Diego to Los Angeles to San Francisco, CA, patients bring many different issues that can be resolved with different commitments of time in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis with me.
You may be wondering about psychoanalysis, and if it’s the “stereotypical” Freudian “lay on the couch and tell me about your mother” experience you see in the movies? I assure you it’s a whole lot more. If you’re curious about psychoanalysis and what is involved in this specialized experience, you can read more about psychoanalysis with me by clicking here.
